Dr. Suzanne M. Miller- PhD, CCC/SLP

Building upon a successful and distinguished career in the field – as student, researcher, clinical practitioner, visiting lecturer, and architect of policy and clinical protocol – Dr. Suzanne M. Miller is founder and president of SLP Associates of Cape Cod. Having practiced as a speech-language pathologist for 22 years, her experience includes provision of services to nursing homes, rehabilitation hospitals and specialty centers, within acute care hospitals, an academic medical center, outpatient and in-patient settings, home care settings and schools. Dr. Miller has presented her research nationally and is the recipient of nine Awards of Continuing Education (ACE) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).

A frequent lecturer at local and national conferences on communication and swallowing disorders in adults, Dr. Miller specializes in swallowing disorders following treatment for head and neck cancer and neurological impairments, as well as cognitive-communication disorders within the geriatric population. During her tenure at Tufts-New England Medical Center, she was instrumental in developing speech pathology services within the Department of Otolaryngology -Head & Neck Cancer Center. Dr. Miller was a member of the NEMC Head & Neck Cancer team for 11 years and is trained in Post-Laryngectomy Voice Restoration techniques.

Dr. Miller’s research has focused on working memory and its relationship to generative syntax in normal adults, and on language correlates to assessing clinical capacity in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Miller provided speech-language pathology services to the Department of Psychiatry, Tufts-New England Medical Center and was instrumental in developing the speech and language training module for Psychiatry Residency Teaching Rounds.

Dr. Miller holds the Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and Massachusetts licensure in Speech-Language Pathology. She earned both a master’s degree and doctoral degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Emerson College in Boston, Mass. She is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA.

Dr. Miller is member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and serves on ASHA’s Scientific & Professional Education Board as member-at-large. (www.ASHA.org)
